NORTH ADAMS--studio21south in North Adams presents "OH CRAP!", an exhibit of art about things forgotten, discarded, and left behind.

"Oh, Crap!" includes drawings and pastels by gallery artist Bob Lafond of an abandoned small-craft airport in New Jersey, and also introduces two new artists to studio21south and the Berkshires.  Gabriella Soraci is a West Coast artist who has completed several prestigious residencies in our area, including the Millay Colony in Austerlitz and the Vermont Studio Center.  Soraci's airy paintings in muted tones hone in on individual cast-offs and thrift store finds.  Susie Tarnowicz is a Connecticut native who assembles piles of common objects and makes fun, energetic paintings of the resulting clutter.

Works by gallery artists will also continue to be on view, including paintings of local and North Adams scenes by Thor Wickstrom, Tanglewood views by Jaye Fox, and Hudson River landscapes by Eric March.

Located in an historic mill loft, studio21south is an exhibition space featuring contemporary realism and formal abstraction, at 189 Beaver St. (Route 8) in North Adams, approximately 1 mile from Mass MoCA.  studio21south is a part of Downstreet Art , a public art project of the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

"OH, CRAP!" runs from July 16 through August 21.  Hours: Saturday 12-5, Sunday, 10-2, and most weekdays and other times by appointment or by chance. 413.652.4815 studio21south@gmail.com, www.studio21south.blogspot.com

Katy Schneider, "Twelve"
June 4-July 10th
opening reception June 4, 3-6pm

"Inside/Out", featuring Katy Schneider and David Gloman

A joint exhibition of a Northampton-based couple.  Schneider, a Lecturer at Smith College, paints the interior of the family home, sometimes capturing it in its anarchic natural state, other times organizing its artifacts into carefully composed still lives.  Gloman, a Resident Artist at Amherst College, turns his attention outdoors. Working on site, he by turns captures the feral, evanescent qualities of the natural environment or plucks order from chaos, placing it into quiet compositions.

David Gloman, "King Street"
Katy Schneider, "Heart and Soul"

David Gloman, "Clouds over Levee"

Katy Schneider, "Gretos"
